Aya de Leon: New Stories
Available to the general public as livestream only. UC Berkeley students may attend in person with valid Cal One ID.
In this talk, author Aya de Leon will discuss what happened when she infused an established genre of literature with new feminist identities and politics. She will share her creative path and discuss the concept of creative friction between literary form and content. De Leon will also read passages from her works and poems that advocate for cultural change, showing why new times demand new narratives and new heroes.
De Leon is an associate professor of English at the University of California Berkeley. Her publications include the very successful Justice Hustlers series, as well as Side Chick Nation and her most recent book, A Spy in the Struggle.
Participants and topics are subject to change; visit Berkeley Arts + Design (artsdesign.berkeley.edu) for the most up-to-date series information.
