Teatime Thursday: Black Life with Ryanaustin Dennis and Ruth Gebreyesus

Please join us for Black Life as Institutional Ecology with Guest Curators Ryanaustin Dennis and Ruth Gebreyesus.

Using the discipline of ecology as a starting point, this interactive talk will cover the history of the Black Life program, highlight recent developments, and prompt participants to ask, “What should art institutions do now?” This presentation will take a look at how Black Life has evolved from a public program to a multidisciplinary platform and how you can be a part of that process.

Ryanaustin Dennis is an Oakland-based creative entrepreneur, writer, and independent curator. They have done curatorial work for Kadist, SFMOMA Open Space, Eastside Arts Alliance, and Betti Ono.

Ruth Gebreyesus is a writer and producer whose work focuses on cultural products and their movement across physical and digital margins. Her writing can be found in the Guardian, SSENSE, KQED, and the Fader. She has presented on memes and Black digital production at the Oakland Museum of California and at the New Museum in New York. Ruth is currently working on a docuseries that examines the social and political implications of food consumption.
