A celebration of the genius of early Korean potters is on display in Gallery D, in a group of ceremonial stoneware pedestal cups and high-necked jars with pierced stands. These skillfully thrown pots date to the early Silla and Kaya kingdoms of the fifth and sixth centuries. Their powerful forms bear a simple decoration of raised bands and combing that sets up a rhythmic variation, enlivening the surface and accentuating the volume of the vessels.
