Monsieur Hulot, a sexy public relations girl and a truck carrying the camper are dispatched from Paris to Amsterdam, giving Tati a glowing opportunity to turn a comic but observant eye on the human race as it faces the everyday frustrations of mechanized chaos - today's highway system.
