Il Posto (The Sound of Trumpets)
A shy boy, just out of school, is faced with starting a job in a huge company. He meets a young woman but their relationship is frustrated by the demands of the work. As with much of Olmi's oeuvre, Il Posto examines the destructiveness of alienated labor and meaningless regimentation. “Remarkably simple yet complex, ingenuous yet profound. Olmi is an artist as skillful as Vittorio De Sica.” (N.Y. Times). This film won the Grand Prize at the London Film Festival and the Critics' Prize at the Venice Film Festival.
