Artists Talks: Tammy Rae Carland, Michele Pred, Catherine Wagner

In the first in a series of gallery talks with local artists featured in New Time, Tammy Rae Carland, Michele Pred, and Catherine Wagner each address their work in the exhibition.

Carland is an artist who works with photography, video, sculpture, and small-run publications. She managed in partnership Mr. Lady Records and Videos, an independent record label and video art distribution company dedicated to the production of queer and feminist culture.

Swedish American conceptual artist Pred works with sculpture, assemblage, and performance to uncover cultural and political meaning behind everyday objects, concentrating on feminist themes of equal pay, reproductive rights, and personal security.

Over the course of her career, Wagner has observed the built environment as a metaphor for how we construct our cultural identities, examining institutions as various as art museums and science labs, the home and Disneyland, and often focusing on the recontextualization of various archives.
